Many of us have heard about solar energy and realize it’s great for the environment, but a lot of folks really don’t know the exact reason. But, it’s not just sunshine and roses; before you putting in your money, you have to know that there some minuses also.

The longer term savings promises are probably the strongest attraction for people installing solar panels. Drawing your power needs from a solar installation at once begins to save you money through not having to pay for electricity. The downside, however, is that the cost of switching to solar can be quite costly. You get to the stage of reveling in no cost power only the moment you’ve recuperated the considerable sum of cash you have to lay out upfront for the solar panels and installation, and this is achieved from the monthly savings, over a period of time (known as the payback period). Apparently, if you use barely any energy then it’ll take you a long time to get your money’s worth, but if you use a lot of electricity then you are going to benefit quicker. Some aid with the upfront cost can be forthcoming from your government if it’s one of those that incentivizes switching to solar power.

Added to it being a sound fiscal investment, solar energy is also not harmful to the environment – a great plus these days. Fossil fuels, the conventional power sources, are burned and emit greenhouse gases in such volume that they cannot be naturally reprocessed, and end up harming our environment and our health – solar does none of these things. Global warming and acid rain are two primary environmental problems, and solar energy doesn’t lend itself to these at all. The sun is the supreme source of solar energy, and as long as it continues giving off energy, solar energy will remain freely available to us.

The panels, which catch solar energy, are usually set up on rooftops, where they are unobtrusive and out of immediate sight, which is mostly not true of wind turbines. Of course, to produce energy efficiently, the panel need to be situated where there is direct sunlight. They’re likewise discreet when it comes to noise and odor, as they create no noise and no terrible odors.

Solar energy systems don’t need maintenance, other than initial installation and they will last for many years, which means you can set them up and leave them there for decades. Among the few troubles with solar, however, perhaps the worst is that they are not able to work at night. You can put in a battery or some kind of backup system to provide energy when there’s no sunlight. Installation can cost a bit, but your solar energy is going to keep them fully charged at no additional cost to you.

If you’re looking for another power source, solar is a really good pick. It’s clean and saves you cash in the long run, even though there are initial costs to have it set up. If you’re looking to decrease your energy costs and care about the environment, then solar energy appears to be the way forward.

As you work to provide your family with the most effective home security possible, be sure to consider the necessity of installing carbon monoxide detectors in your home. You have probably heard stories about people dying in their own homes because they breathed in too much of this dangerous gas. Do the smart thing and keep yourself and your family from being the next victims.

One of the reasons people are vulnerable to being poisoned by carbon monoxide gas is because it is virtually undetectable. It has no taste, color or odor. So you do not even know it is around you. If you breathe too much of it without good ventilation, it can kill you.

This gas is a byproduct that comes as a result of burning certain types of fuel. It can be produced from cars or even by the gas water heater in your home. The fumes from carbon monoxide gas can be diluted with air; often, just opening windows will be enough to bring the levels of concentration down to safe levels.

The best way to stay protected when it comes to carbon monoxide poisoning is to install carbon monoxide detectors in your home. These detectors are built to sound an alert when the levels of carbon monoxide rise to dangerous levels. It is possible that they could save your life, as well as the lives of your family members.

It is wise to put one in the garage, as well as on every floor. Just be sure to set a reminder twice a year so that you will not forget to change the batteries. And make certain that you have battery backup for the hard-wired detectors. You do not want to be unprotected during a power outage.

When you are ready to purchase a carbon monoxide detector, be sure to read plenty of reviews so that you choose one that is reliable. Make sure that you buy the best one that you can afford. Your life may depend on it.

Recycling – it saves energy, money and the planet. Nearly everything is recyclable, if you just know how. That’s where this ongoing guide to recycling comes in. Of course our favorite form of recycling is donating a car to charity (especially Volunteers of America). When you donate a car at CarsHelpingPeople.org you save energy, money and the planetplus you save big with a significant charity tax deduction and help provide programs in your area that help the homeless, veterans, children and seniors. Go to CarsHelpingPeople.org to find out how Volunteers of America is helping people in your community. But on to part 3 of our ongoing alphabetical series on recycling nearly everything:

Eyeglasses: Plastic frames can’t be recycled. But metal eyeglass frames can be. We’re not talking about melting them down, we’re talking about donating them, even your old lenses, to the millions of people around the world who have bad eyesight but can’t afford glasses. Donate your old frames and lenses at neweyesfortheneedy.com. Or drop them off at LensCrafters, Target or other stores and optical departments.

Film Canisters: These bygones from before the digital age can often be recycled at your local recycling center, or see if the photo lab in the drugstore will help you recycle them.

Fire Extinguishers: After you put out the fire, don’t put them in the trash. If you have a dry-chemical extinguisher, just relieve the pressure by squeezing the valve or handle, remove the head and place it with other large items for metal recycling. Sometimes companies that sell fire equipment will take your old extinguisher off your hands. And if you have a carbon dioxide extinguisherjust refill it and use it again!

Food Processors: Many cities and municipalities offer small appliance recycling pick-up. Some will even pick them up curbside. Usually they have to be at least 50% metal (most appliances are about 75% metal, so unless your appliance is all plastic, you’re probably OK).

Formal Gowns: Is there a purple frilly prom dress or some horribly outdated bridesmaid dress taking up space in your closet? Recycle them by donating them to a young girl who can’t afford a new one at operationfairydust.com and catherinescloset.org.

Gadgets: Electronic gizmos like PDAs, MP3 players and other electronic devices are pass almost as soon as you buy them. Recycle them for a good cause – breast cancer research, at recycleforbreastcancer.org. They’ll even send you prepaid mailing labels for your gadgets.

Glue: The Elmer’s Glue Crew wants you! Yes you can, and should recycle white glue and glue sticks…or at least the bottles and tubes they come in. Rinse out old bottles of Elmer’s Glue, or Elmer’s Glue Sticks and send them to Wal-Mart for recycling. See how at elmersgluecrew.com.

Hangers (plastic): You might want to think about donating all those plastic hangers to a thrift store, because plastic hangers aren’t easy to recycle. Apparently not many people think of recycling them . Good news, Angelinos – LA is one of the rare cities that has a facility for recycling plastic hangers.

Hangers (wire): Most dry cleaners are happy to take back your old wire hangers and reuse them. Sometimes you can put them in with your household metals recycling – check with your recycling service to see if you can. But make sure you take those cardboard tubes off. The best way to recycle an old wire hanger? Use it to roast marshmallows over a camp fire.

Don’t junk that truck or car – recycle it. The best place to donate car, truck or golf cart is CarsHelpingPeople.org, the charity car donation program of Volunteers of America. If you’re considering donating cars to charity, check out our impact in your neighborhood. The car you donate will help the homeless, children, veterans and more. 877-721-4862

Today the majority of us are looking for strategies to spend less money, and downsizing is certainly one good way to cut costs. Your home is usually your biggest expense and discovering strategies to spend less on housing is more essential today than ever. The current trend towards smaller homes is essential as more folks are trying to enrich their lives in ways besides owning a big home to impress. Saving money is one of the best reasons to consider a small home.

Here are Six ways a Tiny House Floor Plan Can Reduce Housing Costs.

1. Tiny Homes are Energy-efficient. Much less square footage will mean reduced utility bills. Your small home will be considerably less expensive to heat in winter and keep cool in the summertime, along with less energy consumption for lighting and other electrical use. A tiny home’s interior is more energy-efficient since there are no wasted living space in areas not being used often for instance formal living rooms and dining rooms which are used simply for visitors.

2. Easier to Clean. It’s easy to see why a small house would be much simpler to clean. You will save money on the various cleaning products needed to clean a larger home, along with the time you can save zipping through a tiny home with a vacuum cleaner or sweeper, instead of lugging your vacuum from one room to another on different floors.

While the limited storage space in a tiny house means you’ll want to stay organized, you will also be required to make decisions about what items you will keep and what is better tossed out or given away.

3. No Mortgage or Small Mortgage. Several tiny houses can be constructed without getting a mortgage or with a small loan due to the costs savings in construction materials and labor.

There are floor plans suitable for DIYers to conserve even more money. For those who don’t want to do any work themselves, the beauty of small home floor plans is they are far less expensive to hire a professional to build. Numerous small home floor plans can be built cheaply enough to avoid a home loan altogether. Wouldn’t it be good to have not mortgage…or at least a small one!

4. Less Expensive to Decorate. Because your small house will only allow a limited amount of furnishings, you should try to find dual-purpose furnishings such as storage ottomans. It’s much easier to furnish a tiny home than be required to purchase a lot of furniture to fill each room of a large home. Also fewer windows and less wall and floor space will mean less of your budget spent on decor. This may save significant money on home furnishings for instance carpeting, window covering and expensive electronics…like a big screen TV for each room.

5. Tax Savings. A small home will costs much less in property taxes than larger and more expensive homes. Many people buy condominiums to reduce housing costs, however by owning your own tiny house, you will be able to maintain some independence and privacy while avoiding expensive condo or homeowners association charges.

6. Worry Free Retirement. Undoubtedly, selling the family house and purchasing a smaller home permits empty-nesters to build and protect their funds after retirement. Downsizing has several benefits for empty-nesters surviving on a fixed income. Considering the amount of money you will need to live after you retire, it’s obvious why so many people are looking to downsize and save money on housing expenses after retirement.

Wouldn’t it be great to have the time and money to travel and enjoy your golden years without the worry, expense and upkeep of a large home?

If these six money-saving factors aren’t enough to convince you that a small home is the way to go, consider the environmental benefits of a tiny home. There will be considerably less energy consumption to maintain a small home due to the savings in heating and cooling expenses, in addition to a smaller lawn. You can also reduce your carbon footprint even more by picking eco-friendly construction materials and using chemical free household products and cleaners.

There are many benefits accompanied with growing flowers, plants and vegetables in a plastic green house. Serious growers with a passion for the art almost normally wind up owning one of these. Now, when choosing a green house you will be given a selection of plastic or perhaps glass. Many folks choose to use the plastic greenhouse for the plain and simple reality that it really is less expensive. And at this moment who isn’t trying to save money in whatever way they can?

Regardless of which you choose the object of the object with the plastic green house is to allow natures mild from the outside to shine through to the inside of the construction. This allows solar energy to create heat inside the green house, which is one reasons why they are also referred to as hothouses. Where these are especially popular is within areas where due to many months of inclement weather conditions the growing season regarding plants and vegetables is severely limited.

Not only does the plastic green house allow progress during unfriendly climate it also extends the length of the growing season. And this component is true regardless of what area of the country you will be utilizing it in. And as if in which isn’t enough, the micro climates given by plastic green houses also enables the owner to grow and maintain vegetation that in normal conditions cannot be grown in their area. Nonetheless, there are also precautions to look out for.

If you aren’t careful, you could work the risk of overheating the plants. This is particularly true during the summer months. As it stands, the temperature inside the plastic garden greenhouse will normally run between 30 to 40 degrees more comfortable than outside. What several green house owners opt to do during these times is place some sort of defensive material on the structure. That is the reason it is a good idea to take into account directions when getting the green house up.

Put simply, many owners could have the plastic green house put up in such a manner that the majority of the roof will be facing the south. A good thing as well is that the vast majority of enough time the greenhouse will include tips and instructions on how to deal with these kinds of situations. Plus, when you are shopping around for one take full advantage of picking the actual brains of the people selling them.

So the moral of this story is that this. Do not let the undeniable fact that you live in a specific part of the country stop you from growing the plants, flowers and vegetables you love. Or don’t think that just because some plant is not common to your location there isn’t any hope. A good plastic green house may very well have you putting those concerns aside.

We’ve been hearing the warnings of global warming problems for quite some time now. Green living is being promoted to help stop some of global warming effects and save the environment.

Are those threats real or is this just hype to further political awareness? The temperature of the earth near surface air is what global warming refers to. It allows the earth to be habitable, as it absorbs some of the heat from the sun.

Greenhouse gases that have been released into the earth’s atmosphere are contributing to the rise in the surface air temperature. What is the impact this is having on the earth? According to scientists, the average temperature in the last century has risen. They think that the increase came in the last couple of decades. Scientists also believe that the rise will continue at a faster pace for the future since the increase is steadily rising.

Arctic ice is slowly disappearing over time. The ice are melting because of the warmer temperature caused by global warming effects. Polar bears feel the effects of the ice melting because they sometimes get stranded in the middle of the open sea. In the end, they drown because they try to find more patches of ice to climb onto.

With the melting of the ice, we’re seeing a rise in the sea levels. Because the temperatures are soaring at a rapid rate, the rise will become a problem in the future. The rising of the water level may cause flooding and it will be difficult to pump it out of the areas where people live. Precipitation is also increasing.

Also increasing over time is the amount of snowfall and rainfall. Storms have become more abundant and intense. Hurricanes will not only occur more often and be stronger, there’s also a chance they’ll reach farther inland.

The warming temperatures are also causing more evaporation to occur. The chances of these storms developing increases as evaporation increases, and this will result in the high category hurricanes. The heavier rainfalls will occur, driving people from their flooded homes.

The ecosystems are seeing hardships, too. There are species of animals slowly dwindling in numbers and struggling to survive extinction while others move northward to look for livable conditions.

Even if only slow effects are being shown by global warming, unless we start to reverse it, they will increase over time. By using some green living methods in our daily lives, we can slow down those disastrous effects to save the planet for our heirs.

Trust one of the best Dallas moving companies for your next move.

You’ll find that many more people around the UK have started to buy solar panels in an attempt to become more environmentally friendly. Becoming greener is really crucial in modern day society and finding ways to boost how environmentally friendly you live is advisable. Lots of people in Yorkshire decide to fit solar panels as it’s a rural area that is ideal for farmers to adopt this technology – you’ll see a wide variety of Yorkshire solar panels in the area.

‘On roof’ solar panels are one of the best varieties and are really popular. This specific system has an aluminium frame that lies on top of your roof tiles, leaving the tiles in place. They’re quite easy to fit and don’t take too long – they are also fitted to commercial properties as they are really easily fixed onto corrugated systems and roof cladding.

When travelling around Yorkshire, you’ll be able to see that there are a good deal of ‘in roof’ installations about as well which have a tendency to be on new-build properties (you’ll also find that houses that have recently had a new roof put on install ‘in roof’ solar panels too).

These types of solar panels are really easy to fit when a new roof is being installed, as they are fitted into your roof instead of on top of it. If fitting to an existing roof, some of your tiles will have to be taken out so it’s wise to ask a company with lots of roofing expertise to carry out the work.

If you’re not interested on the appearance of solar panels – a wise decision is solar tiles, they don’t look like conventional solar panels as they fit into your existing tile courses which means you can’t even discover that they’re there. As they are more nice to look at and subtle, you’ll find that they are higher in price- so these are a great in the event that you don’t like the look of traditional solar panels.

If you’re eager to learn a bit more about Yorkshire Solar panels, it’s a great idea to take a look at Yorkshire Solar panels online.

There are many reasons that make the earth’s climate to change. The reasons are categorised into two main groups, namely human causes, and natural causes. While there is nothing much that we can do about natural causes (because, obviously, they are outside of the reach of our hands and control), we might and should be able to do something about human-related causes. In fact, it is because of what we as human do, that make the natural causes to speed up the processes that result in climate change. It is important that we take steps to curb actions that lead to this increase in order to preserve planet earth.

Volcanic eruptions, ocean current, earth orbit change, and solar variations are the natural causes that lead to climatic changes. These in turn will lead to other causes, when again, lead to other changes. An enormous amount of sulphur dioxide (SO2) is discharged every time a volcano erupts. The toxicity of sulphur dioxide is an issue, but the bigger issue that comes out of this is that the earth’s atmosphere undergoes a change with the release of gases and particles from the volcano, resulting, in the end, in a drop of the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. This drop will cause other changes that directly and indirectly affect us, human beings.

The surface of our planet is mostly made of water, and water plays a big role in climatic changes. We have seen how the ocean current has caused phenomena like El Nino. This dreaded phenomenon has produced disasters such as cyclones, hurricanes, heavy rains, floods, and many others.

To add, our planet has the tendency to tilt a little from its axis, and in the process causing the climate to shift somewhat. The strength of the seasons (the intensity of heat in summer and cold in winter) is very much affected by this tilt. That, with the fact that we have solar variation from our sun, makes it all the more feasible for our climate to change accordingly.

Although there is nothing much that we can do to stop our climate from changing due to natural causes, we must do something about the activities that we carry out to speed up the change in climate. Humans have been tinkering with nature since the time of the industrial Revolution, whereby much of the earth’s resources were pretty much abused in order to fulfil the insatiable needs and wants of humankind. This act of squander is still ongoing until this very day.

That is why we have this World on Fire Podcast. We hope to make everyone aware of the critical environmental issues the earth is facing right now. Please join us to make this world a better place. Start by expanding your understanding on where we are as far as the environment is concerned.

I take a fairly skeptical attitude toward “green” wines. I think if you have to market your wine based mostly on stuff like the winery’s carbon emission footprint, then there is probably a reason that you haven’t been able to sell your wine based primarily on its quality. Having said that, what I like in a bottle, (after establishing it’s good), is uniqueness and expressiveness.

I’d like to be convinced by the winemaker that what I am drinking is different than any other bottle opened any other day. He can’t convince me of this if he didn’t put in the time making something that reflects what he grew. In order for his wine to capture what he grew, he must take on the job of maintaining a vineyard and cellar that will produce for a long time to come.

Here’s the rub: Quality wine must be produced sustainably. Wine growers are, at their most elementary, farmers. If you don’t farm sustainably, you wear out your land, and you are not able to farm.

That so much is being made of so-called “green” wines is generally marketing. Wine producers have to be “sustainable” to start with. If they aren’t farming their vineyard sustainably, they almost certainly are not making their wine very carefully either.

Contrary to the public image, most large brands of wine are made with fruit that’s acquired from farmers who agree to grow X amount using Y systems. The drawback of this is that it truly puts the growers at the whims of the market. If they can not produce, then somebody else who grew more will earn more.

If you have an interest in purchasing green, one excellent way to support responsible farming is to buy wines made from estate fruit. Estate fruit means that the wines come from grapes the winery grew. The winery and the vineyard become intrinsically linked, and, as such, more responsible treatment of the land is obligatory. Otherwise, the winery will not be able to produce wine any longer.

Patrick Suleski has been with Colonial Spirits, a Concord liquor store, since early 2008. Patrick studied to become a Sommelier in Florence, Italy, before returning to the US to pursue wine as a career. Quite able with his wine selections, Patrick can also recommend what food to pair with your favorite wine, and can often tell you which blues artist is jamming over the shop’s PA. Colonial Spirits’ latest venture is Colonial Spirits Delivers, an online wine store, which supplies wine, sparkling wine, liquor, and beer delivery to Eastern Mass.

Are energy expenses driving you crazy?

Are energy expenses driving you crazy?

It does not have to be this way.

Nearly all companies are able to save between 10% and 40% each year on their energy expenses. This is money they are throwing down the drain as well as capacity wasted.

Best of all most of the modifications are straightforward, reasonably priced, and pay for themselves quickly. Some cost nothing but a few minutes of your time!

And the best part is that you reap the reward year after year. Each month you get to keep more of your profits and hard earned income. Industrial energy savings is highly rewarding and pays for itself.

5 methods to a successful energy audit:

1) Determine how much you will save: before you make plans or hire an energy consultant, make sure the potential savings excuse the expenditure. Really, does it make sense to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars if your likely savings is merely a few dollars? On the other hand, if several thousand dollars shows you how to save tens (or hundreds) of thousands every year, you would be a fool not to execute it.

2) Decide on an energy consultant: Ok, I’m a tad biased. I believe our services are the best value to be had. That being said, there are several firms out there. Many are first-rate, some are terrible. While price alone doesn’t tell you everything, it is a sign. Complimentary is typically not the best option. The old adage is true: you get what you pay for! And nearly all free services are offered by your local utility. Hmmm….how can this be a conflict of interest? On the other hand, more expensive is not always better. Frequently you are paying for a high priced consultant or engineer to perform things like the site walk-through, data entry, etc….We have found the best way to deal with this concern is to have you or your employee do the walk-through then only pay for the analysis. The analysis is a high value area which is where the savings are found. An experienced auditor has the knowledge and education to scrutinize the data and give you prioritized suggestions.

3) Perform a site walk-through: either you or your auditor will have to do a thorough walk-through. If your auditor is doing the walk-through, be prepared to spend your day escorting him around your facility. He won’t be aware of your process or where your equipment is located, and will want your help. Don’t be anxious about doing the walk-through yourself. This is the easy part of the energy assessment. Really, it isn’t rocket science, and you (or one of your employees) are essentially better equipped to do this than the auditor. You know your process, facility, and equipment much better. But be sure that you get detailed instruction before you start. When we perform energy audits, we provide our customers an comprehensive walk-through handbook. This gives step by step directions on what information is needed, where to look, as well as how to gather the data.

4) Study the consultant’s report: The typical report starts with an executive summary and then goes over the findings and recommendations in detail. Does he provide you details supporting his recommendations? Did he include calculations, charts, and graphs? Did he list references that he used? What did he use as the basis of his assumptions? Most of all, do his suggestions make sense?

5) Prioritize and execute the recommendations: Some may only save a few dollars but cost you zilch. Many may have a enormous payback but the price to execute is excessive. I find it valuable to employ the payback period as the starting point of my suggestions. This takes into considerations the cost and the reward. Additionally, do not be taken aback if many of the top suggestions are basic common sense. In my experience, my preferred cost savings come from simple fixes!

Industrial Energy Audit Services are industry leaders in commercial energy efficiency. Our decades of experience will make your energy audits fast, effective, and affordable. We are so confident that we will save you money, that we guarantee that we will save you 15% or more on your energy bills.
