If you want low-emissions built it light and use a modern clean burning diesel engine. That will also give you the torque you are looking for in off-road use. As a sports car engine of course a diesel is rubbish though. Which is the other problem, "off-road" use and "sports car" (as I think of it) are fundamentally incompatible.

The off-road bit requires a heavy chassis, heavy suspension with high ground clearance and a heavy AWD system with locking differentials, transfer cases and so on. Sports cars need to be light and low with the drive wheels preferably at the back. I dislike the track handling characteristics of AWD sports cars. A lot of people love them. I don't.
References :
What do you think is the best compromise for a low emission/envir. sports car to all terrain vehicle.?
I would love to create a kit car chassis with an emphasis on being able to swap car bodies/shells to transform the motor vehicle from all terrain vehicle to a sports car, whilst having a modern low emission or being environmentally superior. The all terrain vehicle side of it would need to have a strong engine with some kind of lower gearing adjustment system that stretches the ratio back out in sports car mode, 4WD or AWD and torsion bar or air ride suspension for height adjustment. If you wanted an environmental high performance car engine what type would you choose to compromise between the sports car and all terrain vehicle? I was thinking a GM direct injection engine or a new Porche V8 even though I don't know how they work.A Bio diesel engine or hybrid system may be the answer. but I don't know much about environmentally friendly high performance engines. I have also already adapted my Subaru Brumby to a half track/ute at home. The rear wheels can be removed and a chain driven sprocket attached to where the wheels attach. The structure that bolts to my ute has the torsion bar suspension system and 2 bogies/wheels, a rubber track with metalCabless like the WW2 US M3half trackk. Later on Irealizedd I probably could of had and extra diff. or clutch/gears or universal joint sytem coming straight off thedrive shaftt to power the half track sprockets. Anyway the system works really well. I am way off the track but the reason I'm mentioning this is because I'd love to have a similar removablehalf trackk system on my kit car's chassis. What do you think is the bestcompromisee for sports car to allterrainn vehicle is. This includes engine choice, suspension, anything else. Cheers John.
Sorry about spelling errors, I tried to correct them but I didn't realize Yahoo Answers stuffed it up. Cheers John.

The only similarly would be that under Obama Care you could take your sick elderly relatives into the hospital of your choice and they would gladly euthanize them and recycle anything worth salvaging.
